My Story
Color has the power to transform the ordinary into something extraordinary.
Long before I discovered beadweaving, I was fascinated by the way colors worked together—the balance, the contrast, the harmony, and the emotion they create. Whether it was fashion, interior design, art, or nature, color was always the first thing I noticed.
My passion for design led me to a career in fashion, where my fascination with color became the common thread woven through every chapter of my creative journey. Buying, merchandising, and product development for some of New York's most respected retailers gave me an extraordinary education in both creativity and business, and helped sharpen my eye for color, quality, and design – qualities that continue to guide my work today.
During a brief retirement from retail, I decided to host a jewelry house party featuring several talented jewelry artists from New York’s Hudson Valley. When the artisan making the earrings backed out at the last minute, I thought, "Maybe I can make earrings!"
As a little girl, I spent hours watching my grandmother create tiny sculptures from colorful telephone wire. She taught me to wire wrap, and although years had passed since I'd picked up a pair of pliers, my hands remembered how.
I made my first few pairs of wire wrapped earrings, and the show went on as planned. Unfortunately, it was a complete flop.
Each artist’s work was beautiful on its own, but together the pieces lacked a cohesive story.
After spending years creating coordinated collections, I couldn't stop thinking about how much stronger the presentation would be if everything shared the same color story. So I taught myself bead weaving, creating pieces designed to coordinate effortlessly – pieces that could be worn together, mixed with other collections, or become treasured on their own.
Looking back, I realize that’s when jewelry found me.
Today, every handwoven piece you see is individually crafted by me, bead by bead.
Every design begins the same way—with color. Some palettes are quiet and understated. Others are bold and unexpected. Each reflects a lifetime spent believing that color has the power to tell a story, evoke emotion, and transform something beautiful into something unforgettable.
Thank you for visiting NanZ Studio. I hope you find something you love as much as I loved creating it.
The greatest compliment isn't selling a piece—it's seeing someone wearing it.
Every piece begins with color. Everything else follows.
